Two out-of-towners arrested while attempting to leave the city after shoplifting incident Saturday morning

On Saturday, July 1st, 2023, at 11:14 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported shoplifting that had just occurred at Kohl’s, 2751 Countryside Dr, Turlock, after loss prevention had stated that they had observed a known shoplifter select a large amount of clothing and walk out the door without paying.

The woman, later identified as Monalisa Carranza, 46, of Sacramento, was seen getting into a gray 2003 BMW 3 Series with a man later identified as Jose Covarrubias, 25, of Los Angeles.

The two then began fleeing the area, however, were observed by a responding officer and stopped as they were getting onto the freeway.

Carranza and Covarrubias were both contacted and identified.

When the officer had their dispatcher run the two, he discovered that Carranza was on post release community supervision out of Los Angeles County and had a felony bench warrant for grand theft, theft, and falsely identifying to a peace officer.

An additional officer arrived at Kohl’s and began investigating. The investigation revealed that the stolen merchandise was valued at more than $950.

Carranza and Covarrubias were both arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of conspiracy, grand theft, and possession of methamphetamines. Carranza was also booked on the additional charge of obstructing or resisting a public officer in the discharge of their duty and her warrant.

    It’s about time these worry free shoplifters get what they deserve. I wish more stores would take a hard line approach to these thief’s that cause us hard working customers to pay more for merchandise that these crooks cause.

At about 2:20pm Wednesday afternoon, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s and Turlock Police responded to a weapon offense that had just occurred at a residence in the 900 block of Kenwood Avenue, after several callers had reported hearing about 10 shots in the area.
