Man Arrested After Holding Down and Hitting Dog

At about 1:23pm Thursday afternoon, Turlock Police responded to an animal abuse in progress at Regal Cinemas in the 2300 block of W. Main Street, after several witnesses had reported that there was a man holding a dog down and hitting it, causing it to yelp.

Officers arrived on scene and contacted two subjects, including Jerry Bays, 39, of Modesto.

Through the investigation, the witness accounts were confirmed by surveillance video.

Bays was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of animal abuse.

The dog was taken by the Animal Services Unit for treatment and is currently in good health.

At about 2:20pm Wednesday afternoon, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s and Turlock Police responded to a weapon offense that had just occurred at a residence in the 900 block of Kenwood Avenue, after several callers had reported hearing about 10 shots in the area.
