Kevin Kramer, former Turlock High School baseball standout, was drafted in the second round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates Monday night.

Kramer, a redshirt junior at UCLA, was selected 62nd overall after a stellar season at shortstop for the Bruins.

The Turlock native led the Bruins in hits (82), runs scored (55), walks (36), and tied with a team-high home runs (7), while posting a career high .323 batting average and earning his first All-Pac 12 first team honor.

Kramer was drafted in the 25th round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians, when he finished high school, however elected to attend UCLA instead. It should be no problem for the Pirates to sign Kramer, as he has already finished his degree at UCLA.

Although he missed all of 2014 with a torn labrum, Kramer helped lead the Bruins to a national championship in 2013.

Kramer played shortstop for the Bruins, however many baseball experts see him as more of a second or third baseman at the next level.

Before attending UCLA, Kramer was a standout player at Turlock High School, highlighted by his three playoff home runs during Turlock's run to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section title game in 2010. He also played on the USA Baseball U-16 Team, which claimed the gold medal in Taiwan in 2009.

Kramer was ranked by some experts as a top 100 prospect when he graduated from Turlock High School.
