National Fire Prevention Week is from October 4th through the 10th and the Turlock City Fire Department kicked it off with a Fire Station 1 Open House event.
People from the community got a chance to learn about fire extinguisher use, car seat safety, fire prevention and other safety tips.
While education and the promotion of safety were the focal points of the event, people had a great time watching and participating in demonstrations and simulations.
Fire Station 1 is also the home of the Fire Department Museum where visitors were able to look at old fire engines, gear, and pictures.
The community was given many photo opportunities including putting on a firefighter’s gear, sitting on a police motorcycle, and getting in a fire truck.
The hundreds in attendance enjoyed the sounds of the Turlock Police Fire Pipe and Drum band while Turlock Firefighters Local 2434 provided hot dogs and drinks.
“We strive to prevent harm and destruction, be a partner and a resource, have compassion and be safe.” – Turlock City Fire.
