Dr. Hamid Shirvani has sent a message to the CSU Stanislaus community regarding the announcement that he was a finalist for the position of University of Idaho President:
Dear Colleagues,
As many of you are aware, I have been selected as one of the finalists for the presidency at the University of Idaho.
It is important for you to know (rumors to the contrary) that I did not seek out this opportunity, but was contacted by the search team and strongly encouraged to consider becoming a candidate. It was an honor to have been approached in this way and at the time, for personal reasons, I felt it was at least worth looking into.
Since my candidacy became public, various members of our Foundation Board, as well as local community members have appealed to me to reconsider my candidacy and reaffirmed their support for my leadership, which was very heartening.
Most importantly, I was especially moved and honored by the many faculty, staff, and students who have personally approached me to express their support for my leadership and to ask what they can do to convince me to stay.
These expressions of support are deeply appreciated and have helped convince me that my work here is valued and that, together, we can keep this great University moving forward.
Therefore, I have decided to withdraw my name from further consideration with the University of Idaho.
With this message, I wish to not only express my gratitude for the many kind words of personal support that I have received, but to also reaffirm my strong commitment to California State University, Stanislaus.
Proud to be a Cal State Stanislaus Warrior,
Ham
