The proposal was worked out by a budget sub-committee that included Mayor John Lazar and Vice Mayor Ted Howze.
37 job positions are proposed to be cut. 14 of the positions have been frozen since the mid-year budget review and have been left vacant.
A position the budget sub-committee could not come to agree on whether to cut or keep is the Arts Facilitator. This position is heavily associated with all the controversy concerning the Carnegie Arts Center project.
Some city organization restructuring is also being proposed. Even top down cuts, such as eliminating directors and managers, are included in the restructuring.
Using $2.5 million in reserve funds is also part of this upcoming year’s budget.
The budget adjustments were made to address a projected FY2009/10 budget deficit of approximately $5.1 million. The fiscal year 2009/10 begins on July 1, 2009.
