TUSD and Teachers Union Clash Over Compensation, Grievances, Labor Charges

Labor negotiations between the Turlock Unified School District and the Turlock Teacher’s Association, which represents the 700 teachers in the school district, are apparently beginning to turn sour. During the TUSD Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday night, TTA President and Turlock High School teacher Julie Shipman said Turlock teachers have gone from the best compensated in terms of salary and benefits to eighth best in all of Stanislaus County.

A small portion of Geer Road was closed on Monday with crews working in the intersection of Geer and Pedras roads. PG&E was working in the intersection, which left a northbound Geer Road lane closed on each side of North Avenue.

TUSD Board to Hear Update on Common Core at Public Meeting

The Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Professional Development Center, located at 1100 Cahill Ave. The meeting will begin with an inspiration from Turlock High School senior Adam Volk, the TUSD Character Counts award recipient for the character trait of “responsibility.”

A sign at Pedretti Park, located at 2400 N. Tegner Rd., advises visitors not to drink the water that is used to irrigate the park. According to the sign, recycled water, which is treated wastewater, is used to irrigate the landscaping at the park.
