Central Park, located on the corner of East Main Street and Golden State Boulevard, is highly populated during the days, but not as much at night. Signs posted around the park actually prohibit overnight stays or camping in the park, and say the park is only allowed to be used during the day.

Esteban Miranda, 23, didn’t exactly have a “traditional” college experience. When his friends were out partying and hanging out with girls, Miranda was working essentially non-stop buying merchandise at yard sales and selling them at flea markets up and down the Valley on weekends, a skill that he learned from his parents growing up in Merced. During his senior year at Fresno State, where he majored in business and minored in entrepreneurship, Miranda began building a stockpile of merchandise for his future business, Miranda’s Thrift Shop.

THS, PHS Teachers Appear in CNN Article on San Joaquin River

Turlock High School Geoscience and AP Environmental Science Teacher Ryan Hollister, along with his wife Laura Hollister, a science teacher at Pitman High School, and their 18-month-old child Zephyr Hollister were included in a CNN interactive journalism piece chronicling the tribulations of the San Joaquin River titled, “My 417-mile trip down ‘Apocalypse River’” by John D. Sutter. Sutter spent three weeks hiking, kayaking through 400-plus miles of the river that was once the second largest in the state, but now runs dry for a 40 miles stretch just southeast of Merced County. American Rivers rated the San Joaquin as the most endangered river in the U.S.

CVS Officially Pulls All Tobacco Products from Stores

CVS Health announced on Wednesday that all tobacco products have been pulled from CVS/pharmacy locations across the nation, including Turlock. The company, which also announced that it changed its corporate name from CVS Caremark to CVS Health, originally announced the plan to pull tobacco products in February.
