There’s an old saying: “It’s hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk.”This may have happened in Turlock Wednesday, when a truck lost a load of eggs at the intersection of Taylor Road and Golden State Boulevard. With Wednesday’s temperatures hitting nearly 100 degrees, the eggs certainly may have been frying. That, or they just smelled rotten.

THS Custodian Finds $3,400 in Jacket, Returns to Owner

In the immortal words of John Wooden, “The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.”On May 9, Turlock High School custodian Billy Lowe found a random jacket stuffed into a classroom trash can. After he fished it out, he attempted to find some type of identification inside one of the pockets, but instead he found $3,400 in cash.Lowe immediately turned over the jacket and cash to THS administration. School Resource Officer Neil Raumann was subsequently able to find the owner of the jacket.

Around Turlock – May 13

Many roads around Turlock have been torn up for construction recently, with Golden State Boulevard the newest victim.Golden State Boulevard is currently under construction between Hawkeye and Almond avenues, as the City of Turlock works to install a new traffic signal at the intersection of Golden State Boulevard and Dels Lane. As part of that work, a small portion of Golden State Boulevard is being repaved.

Blue Diamond Growers has opened eight full-time positions at its Turlock almond processing facility, and is currently accepting applications. Blue Diamond Growers is looking to fill eight Operator Technician positions, which are full-time and benefited positions. The positions are paid hourly, with pay around $19.50 per hour. The Stanislaus Economic Development & Workforce Alliance reports that the open positions are for the graveyard and swing shifts.

Turlock eatery Green Grub celebrated its first year in business on Monday.Green Grub, located at 2922 Geer Rd. in the former home of House of Java and House of Yogurt, Too, serves healthy salads, sandwiches and breakfast foods. The restaurant specializes in its “green” smoothies; the Green Grub House Shake includes blueberries, spinach, kale, protein, almond milk, and organic peanut butter.
