Thanksgiving Dinner Under $50 for Family of 10, According to Report

Before thousands decide to line up for a great deal, savvy shoppers are lining up to get the best deal on the Thanksgiving that will feed their hungry family. However, according to a report from the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF), Thanksgiving dinner will cost right around $50 for a family of 10. The dinner doesn’t skimp and includes turkey, bread stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a relish tray of carrots and celery, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and beverages of coffee and milk — with enough to feed 10 hungry mouths and plenty of leftovers.

40th Annual Turkey Trot Held at Donnelly Park

The 40th Annual Turkey Trot was held Saturday at Turlock’s Donnelly Park with more than 270 participants despite rainy weather. There were two events, a 1-mile children’s stampede for children ages 12 and under and a 2-mile fun run or walk for adults and children age 13 and up.The Trot was open to anyone wishing to participate not just competitive runners.

Turlock Junior High Student Earns Alternate Spot at State Spelling Bee, Other Local Students Win Honors

Turlock Junior High School eighth-grader Frances Haydock finished in third place at the Stanislaus County Office of Education Spelling Bee and will serve as an alternate to compete in the State Championship in San Rafael on May 2, 2015 if the first or second place winners Liah Kim of Prescott Junior High and Sam Victorio of Oakdale Junior High, respectively, are unable to compete. Frances beat out 33 other top spellers from 20 junior high schools throughout Stanislaus County at the Spelling Bee, held Tuesday at the Martin G. Petersen Event Center in Modesto.

Traffic was briefly snarled on a portion of Geer Road Friday afternoon with some small road work being done. First northbound traffic was merged into one lane, with southbound later feeling the same effects.
