The Turlock Gospel Mission will be holding a yard sale this Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, located at 2619 North Berkeley Ave. Appliances, tools, household items, furniture and other goods will be for sale.

Many Turlockers have seen the “Uneven Sidewalk” signs lining the sidewalk around the Geer Gardens shopping center for weeks, but the sidewalk now has a different look. The signs are still up, but now several sections of the sidewalk have been removed and taped off as repairs begin.

Turlock Native Serving Aboard USS America

On Sept. 11, it is important to remember and honor the brave men and women of the United States Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, National Guard and Navy stationed at home and abroad. Turlock native, U.S. Marines Lance Cpl. Juliana Valladares is currently serving aboard the Navy’s newest ship, the future Amphibious Assault ship, USS America (LHA 6), as a combat cargo specialist for Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force South.

Around Turlock – September 10

Fire engines are often seen driving around Turlock, as the Turlock Fire Department fields 16.1 calls per day, according to the 2013 Turlock Fire Department Annual Report. However, it is not common that the Modesto Fire Department is spotted in Turlock. This engine was spotted on Monte Vista Avenue near the fruit stand.

CSU Stanislaus Hosts Kinesiology Olympics

Five years ago the Kinesiology Department was one of the smallest at California State University, Stanislaus — with only about 150 students — but this year the major is much more popular with more than 550 declared Kinesiology students. In celebration of its continued growth, the 15th Annual Kinesiology Majors Olympics was held Wednesday at the Warrior Arena for all Kinesiology and Liberal Studies (PE concentration) majors.

Trash is thrown about and a grocery cart sits apparently abandoned at the southeast corner of F Street and Golden State Boulevard. A sore sight for motorists as they enter into Turlock’s metropolitan area northward from Highway 99.
