Soles for Souls Seeking Shoe Donations for TUSD Kids

‘Turlock Harvest Christian Center recently kicked off its “SOLES for SOULS” shoe donation drive, which collects shoes and socks for Turlock Unified School District students in need. Jennifer Eivaz, wife of Harvest Christian Church Pastor Ron Eivaz, said last year more than 500 pairs of shoes and nearly as many socks were donated to children at TUSD schools.

Cornerstone Covenant Church to Host Annual Yard Sale Sept. 6

The Cornerstone Covenant Church is holding its annual free-admission Community Yard Sale, Saturday, Sept. 6 from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, located at 4105 Crowell Road. The well-known event and the largest of its kind in Turlock is a gathering of 75 sellers selling household treasures of all sorts, hundreds of Turlock neighbors, vendors from various organizations, and of course good food and groovin’ music.

Birds love a good, round letter to build their home in, as seen here with a nest made in the sign at the CVS Pharmacy at 3100 Geer Rd. Birds are sometimes attracted to nest in the letters of store signs because they are high enough for them to look out for predators; in modern society the letters often look like a good spot to settle to birds.

Dry Rot Found in Girls’ Gym, Renovation Completion Delayed

The Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees approved an additional $790,000 to the $2.8 million budget for the renovations the Turlock High School West Gym, also known as the “Girls' Gym” after construction crews found dry rot behind a layer of plaster on the front corners of the structure.  Last summer renovations began on the Turlock High School historic Girls' Gym and the project was expected to be completed before the beginning of the 2015-16 school year, however the additional work will add more time.
