Former POW Jessica Lynch Plans Visit to THS

Former U.S. Army Private soldier and Operation Iraqi Freedom Prisoner of War Jessica Lynch is planning a visit to Turlock High School on Nov. 7 for a Veteran Dinner and plans to speak to THS students, at no charge to the school. “This is an awesome opportunity for our student to meet a former POW motivational speaker who overcame adversity,” Lt. Cmdr. (USN-Retired) Carlos Montanez of THS Navy JROTC wrote in an email to THS Principal Marie Peterson.

Turlock Game Designer Successfully Fund New Project via Kickstarter

What if you could have a collection of incredibly fun games that fit in your pocket — to play with anyone, anytime? That’s the question Chris Handy, a local game designer, asked when he launched his new project Pack O Game™ out of Turlock. "My game workshop is above the Dust Bowl, and these concepts came from there," said Handy, "Launching from Turlock out to the world today."

Family, Friends Gather to Remember Fallen Turlock Teen

On Aug. 23 of last year Turlock native and 2012 Pitman High School graduate Stephen Gugel passed away following a freak bicycle accident at the Patterson Skate Park. He was just 19 years old, but he led a life of laughter and fun. Saturday night about two-dozen of his friends joined his older sister Amber Gugel at the skate park to remember Stephen and to hold a memorial on the one-year anniversary of his tragic passing.

TUSD Honors Summer Senior Grads

Sometimes when graduation day comes along at the end of a student’s high school senior year things aren’t always complete and it takes that extra effort in the face of adversity to get it done. It would be easy for a young person on the cusp of adulthood to simply give up and walk away. Fortunately a group of seniors from Turlock Unified School District schools didn’t give up and completed their high school diplomas over the summer of their senior year.
