The Dollar General, located at 2641 Geer Rd., in the building that used to house the Hollywood Video has a special advertisement visible to all passersby on the busy road. Dollar General may not be the first stop for someone looking to buy cigarettes, but this sign outside is trying to pull in those customers.
Turlock High School completed its two-day Round Up event, which traditionally signals to students and parents that summer is just about over. Textbook/Audio & Visual Clerk Kristin Bettencourt said she and a staff of four dedicated student workers spend the entire summer gathering, repairing and preparing 11,000 textbooks to hand out to Turlock High students at Round Up.
The Chatom Union School District kicked off the school year Tuesday, but for some kids it wasn’t so much “back” to school as it was their first day ever at school. Four-year olds in Mrs. Eloisa Dompe spent their first day in transitional kindergarten (TK) at Chatom Elementary learning the basics of school, such as how to walk in the hallways, how to get their lunch in line, how to sit down quietly at play stations.
Turlock High School and California State University, Stanislaus graduate Nick Stavrianoudakis was recently named the Interim Athletic Director at Modesto Junior College. Stavrianoudakis received his M.S. degree from the University of Illinois-Champaign in Recreation, Sports, Tourism with a concentration in Sports Management and a M.A. from the University of Colorado, Boulder in Economics after he earned his B.A. from CSU Stanislaus, also in Economics.
When criminals are running from Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies, they better hope that Deputy Terry Johnson isn’t the one on their tails. Johnson competed in the annual United States Police and Fire Championship Games in San Diego earlier this year, and took home seven medals, including five gold medals.
The Turlock Pregnancy Center is hiring for a Development Director. Resumes or applications can be submitted until Aug. 15. The Development Director plans, directs and coordinates TPC development activities, major fundraising activities and special projects by performing the duties personally or through subordinates. Salary and hours are negotiable and will be discussed during the interview process with the TPC Executive Director.
