Turlock Kid Goes for Shot at Jr. Olympic Team, Needs Funding Help

Turlock High School graduate Branden Gover, 17, is literally shooting for a spot on the United States Junior National Olympic Team on July 10 to 13 at the National Championship at Colorado Springs’s Olympic Training Center. Branden Gover competes in Olympic-style bunker shooting, which includes 15 underground machines that shoot out clay targets at varying angles and speeds.

Chinese Students, Faculty Visit CSU Stanislaus

Thirteen Chinese students and two faculty members from the Hubei University of Economics are currently visiting California State University, Stanislaus, and taking courses in American culture, English, and finance classes. The group of students and faculty come from the university located in Hubei Province, China where President Joseph Sheley previously established a relationship during his time at Sacramento State. The students’ trip began last week and will end July 8.

Around Turlock – June 30

These “Uneven Sidewalk” signs often seen on Tuolumne Road near the Geer Road intersection have recently been popping up more all over Turlock. The issue commonly occurs as trees grow and their roots damage the adjacent sidewalks. The trees along Tuolumne aren’t large, but are doing enough to make people want to watch their step.

TUSD Schools To Have Shorter Wednesdays

Beginning on Aug. 20, the first Wednesday of the 2014-15 school year, all Turlock Unified School District students will be dismissed at earlier times — with the exception of Roselawn High School and eCademy Charter. Students seventh- through 12th-grade will be released 50 minutes early and first- through sixth-grade will be released 45 minutes early. All a.m. and p.m. transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students will be released at their regular time.
