Pitman Holds Career Day for Students

Pitman High School’s Office Occupations ROP program held its fourth Annual Career Day last Thursday. More than two-dozen colleges and businesses were present, giving students the opportunity to gain insight into career fields and further educational opportunities. “We always make sure and give students a good mixture of business, colleges and military. Today we had more than 700 students participate in Career Day,” said Business Teacher Anna Eshoo.

Hundreds of people converged on the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds Saturday afternoon to get a taste of more than 100 beers available at this year’s Central Valley Brewfest.Breweries from all around the Central Valley, including Turlock’s Dust Bowl Brewing Co. and Sandude Brewing Co. and Merced’s Bobcat Brewing Co., and beyond brought their best beers to be tried by all of the beer snobs in the area.

The Chief Executive Officer of Stanislaus County announced the hiring of a new County Library last week, following a nationwide recruitment.Diane McDonnell, who currently serves as the Senior Community Library Manager in Contra Costa County, will be taking over for Vanessa Czopek, who retired in April after more than 18 years with Stanislaus County.

Cunningham Elementary Reaches Top 100 Schools In Pizza Hut Book It Program

Stacy Oldfield, a fourth-grade teacher at Cunningham Elementary School in Turlock understands the importance of reading. Through the accelerated reading program, Oldfield’s class read nearly 168,000 minutes this year to crack the top 100 reading classes in the entire country through Pizza Hut’s “Book It” Program. Her students will be awarded with a free class pizza party and a “Top 100 Award.” Many of her students were elated to learn of their distinction and reading prowess.
