The sales may be over, but the Valley View Plaza Shopping Center, located on the corner of Geer Road and Monte Vista Avenue, was still celebrating the “black” in Black Friday. Lights in the parking lot were out on Monday night, creating a very dark view for passersby and scary walk for customers.

Blocked off parking lots are becoming a common sight around Turlock with several businesses repaving, repairing, or repainting parking lots. The Turlock Eyecare chose a good time to have their parking lot closed with the holiday weekend bringing much less traffic.

Around Turlock – November 28

Turlock residents can have their loose leaves picked up by the City of Turlock if placed in piles along the curb side of the street. Residents are encouraged to use their green waste container first, but leaves that do not fit in the container can be placed in piles 18 inches from the curb, according to the City of Turlock.

Young Family Loses Home on Thanksgiving Eve, Community Rallies to Help

A young local family is in shock and deeply saddened by the sudden total loss of their Denair home on Thanksgiving Eve. Laura Long, an assistant principal at Wakefield Elementary in Turlock, and her husband Jeff were out of town visiting family with their four small children, ages 7 years, 5 years, 3 years, and 8 months old, when they received a phone call every family dreads- their home was on fire.

Nestled in a Turlock suburb is a large, open field and small baseball diamond that appears to come straight from a movie with all of the fall colors. The field, located on Hedstrom Road between Olive and Colorado avenues, is however meant for church use only; it is connect to the Harvest Christian Center’s North Campus.

Crowell Students Awarded TUSD Students of the Month

Crowell Elementary School sixth graders Abel Medina and Nevien Mohsen were selected as the Turlock Unified School District’s Character Counts Students of the Month for the character trait of “citizenship.” Nevien moved to the United States with her family when she was 8 years old and according to her teacher, Patricia Langpaap, she has demonstrated amazing development in English and can now read and write as well — if not better than — some of her peers.
