A group of 38 sophomore students from Kyoto Gakuen High School in Japan spent several days in Turlock as guests of Turlock High School’s Japanese Exchange Program. Japanese students have been visiting THS annually for the past 25 years and each year they take home positive experiences learning about the English language and American culture.
The Chatom Unified School District Parents and Teachers Club will host their annual Halloween Carnival on Saturday. Admission to Saturday’s carnival is free for the public, with several games, food, and fun for those who attend.
Want to learn a new language? The Stanislaus County Library has an app for that. The Stanislaus County Library, which includes the Turlock branch, will now offer a free, online language learning system, known as Mango Languages, with features lessons in more than 60 languages to choose from.
It’s no secret that Turlock, as well as the rest of California, are suffering a severe drought. While the months of high water usage are coming to a close, Turlockers continue to notice water wasting around Turlock.
A group of 43 California State University, Stanislaus students were honored as this year’s recipients of the Mary Stuart Rogers Scholarship during an on-campus luncheon Monday. Rogers Scholars receive $3,000 for undergrad students and $3,500 students in teaching credential programs at CSU Stanislaus.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback, and Turlock native, Colin Kaepernick can add another win to his already promising career — the winner of the “GQ Style Wars.” Kaepernick was named as the best-dressed NFL star, as voted by fans, defeating such challengers as Dallas Cowboys’ DeMarco Murray, Houston Texans’ Arian Foster, and 49ers teammate Michael Crabtree.
