THS Senior Gathers Donations for Needy Classmates

Turlock High School senior Michaela de Bos gathered enough donations to purchase 37 backpacks filled with school supplies for needy students at THS. Michaela was one of only 30 junior and sophomore young ladies from Stanislaus County selected last spring through a competitive application process to be part of the Gallo Early Start Leadership Camp Program, which develops leadership skills such as project management, team dynamics, effective meeting strategies and organizing a community service project.

Former Turlocker Finalist in Lay’s New Chip Flavor Contest to Win $1 Million

A former Turlock resident is one of four finalists competing to win $1 million in Lay’s “Do Us A Flavor” contest. Chad Scott, who was raised in Turlock but is now a visiting lecturer at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, submitted the chip flavor Lay’s Cappuccino which was selected from more than 14 million entries submitted for the contest.

Toni Boster Recognized as TUSD Volunteer of the Year

Toni Boster was recognized Tuesday evening at the Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting as the 2014 TUSD Volunteer of the Year. Boster serves on the Medeiros Elementary School Site Council, the Turlock Junior High School Site Council, the Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council and the TUSD Education Foundation. To top it all off, she is chairperson of the TUSD Budget Advisory Committee, which makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees for budget allocations.

Fundraiser for Baby with Congenital Heart Disease to be Held Saturday

Jonathan Chad Cardona, also affectionately known as “Baby J” was welcomed into the world by his first-time parents, Johnny and Tammy Cardona of Turlock on April 16 of this year. While Tammy was pregnant the couple learned that Baby J had complex heart defects and Heterodoxy Syndrome, which causes the organs to grow on the wrong side of the torso cavity, thus causing defects in the heart, as in Baby J’s case.
