THS Senior Gathers Donations for Needy Classmates

Turlock High School senior Michaela de Bos gathered enough donations to purchase 37 backpacks filled with school supplies for needy students at THS.

Michaela was one of only 30 junior and sophomore young ladies from Stanislaus County selected last spring through a competitive application process to be part of the Gallo Early Start Leadership Camp Program, which develops leadership skills such as project management, team dynamics, effective meeting strategies and organizing a community service project.

Following the Early Start Leadership Camp in March, Michaela worked on her project. She was able to gather enough donations to purchase 37 backpacks and fill them with school supplies for students in need at THS.

“The project showed me how to use my resources effectively and how to put myself out there and be successful,” said Michaela.

THS Counselor Lori Marchy nominated Michaela for the prestigious program and says her experience with the project will help her get a foot in the door with E & J Gallo Winery should she choose to later seek employment with them in some capacity.

Michaela is a member of the THS Girl’s Golf team, carries a 3.9 GPA and is an active member of the Portuguese Club.
