Since all permit work for the Monte Vista Crossings expansion was completed in early-May, the buildings that will house Dick’s Sporting Goods and Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store are starting to take shape. Turlock Assistant to the City Manager for Housing and Economic Development Maryn Pitt has now confirmed that the two anchor stores are expected to open in October. That’s a more firm date than the “before Christmas” timeframe earlier announced.

Nichols Gets Publicist, Acting Role Offers, To Release New Dances on YouTube

Pitman High School junior Brett Nichols now has a celebrity publicist, an official YouTube channel, and is considering acting offers. What a difference a week makes for Nichols, who was just an average high school student before last Wednesday. It was then that a video of Nichols dancing like the King of Pop Michael Jackson hit reddit and went viral, earning worldwide acclaim. More than 15 million people have now seen Nichols’ first-place performance to “Billie Jean” in the Pitman High School Talent Rally. He has been interviewed by CNN, MTV, and other national news agencies.

Around Turlock – May 29

Despite a hot Memorial Day reaching well into the 90s, Turlockers found a way to keep cool. Blain Cooper, 5, and Annie Cooper, 2, enjoyed the water feature at Columbia Park, located at 595 High St. The Columbia Park water feature is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The Columbia Park community pool opens July 14.
