Covenant Village Pays Tribute to Those Who Have Served

With Memorial Day approaching Monday, residents of Covenant Village of Turlock saw a different start to their weekly chapel service Thursday, as they honored those who have served in the military. Six Covenant Village residents, dressed in red, white, and blue, lined the stage to share some words that had been written by veterans.

Next time you drive down Canal Drive, keep an eye out for this sign in the median near Geer Road.The sign was placed in honor of the Earth-conscious, recycled rubber mulch used in the median. As the sign notes, 48,125 tires were recycled to create the rubber mulch which now fills the median. Those tires would otherwise be sitting in California landfills.

Turlock High NJROTC Student Earns $180,000 Scholarship

Turlock High School senior and NJROTC student Bryson Curtin was awarded a $180,000 full-ride ROTC Navy Scholarship with a Marine Corps Option to Norwich University, a private military academy in Vermont.It is believed Curtin is the first THS student to ever receive such an honor.At Norwich University, Bryson plans on majoring in international relations. Upon graduation he will enter the U.S. Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant for a six-year contract. Ultimately he plans to make the Marines his career.

Turlock Firefighters Annual Boot Drive a Success

Turlock firefighters battled a different kind of heat to raise money for their “Random Acts of Kindness” fund on Saturday.Firefighters of the Turlock Firefighters Local #2434 took to Monte Vista Crossings with boots in hand to raise money, and raised $9,991 for their efforts.“It was a success and (are) very thankful we have a very generous community,” said Capt. Frank Saldivar of the Turlock Fire Department.

Turlock Memorial Park to Host Annual Memorial Day Service

In honor of Memorial Day, the Turlock Memorial Park and Funeral Home will hold its 61st annual Turlock Memorial Day service on Monday morning.The service will begin with a prelude by the Hilmar Community Band at 9:30 a.m., followed by the actual service at 10 a.m. Since 1963, the Turlock Memorial Park has held the annual Turlock Memorial Day service to honor and remember those who lost their lives while serving in the military.
