More People Signing up for Parks, Rec Programs, Tournaments

A few Turlock Parks and Recreation programs have enjoyed substantial growth in the past year.The City of Turlock's adult softball program has surged, growing from 288 to 305 teams. Each team, comprised of at least 10 players, pays between $345 and $680 to play.Youth dance classes drew 350 participants this year. And T-Ball has experienced sensational growth, up to 540 kids playing from 380, a number that should stay high given the multi-year nature of T-ball.

Don Pedro Fully Open for Memorial Day

Despite a historically dry year, Don Pedro Reservoir will be fully operational this Memorial Day Weekend.The reservoir, jointly operated by the Turlock and Modesto irrigation districts, will feature a lower water level than seen most years. But all boat ramps, marina facilities, and campgrounds will be open.Every campsites at Fleming Meadows has been reserved for this busy holiday weekend. But some spots remain at the Moccasin Point and Blue Oaks campgrounds.

CSU Stanislaus Honor Society Introduces New Members

The California State University, Stanislaus chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi held its annual initiation ceremony May 2 to welcome 73 new student initiates and six new faculty and administration initiates. Membership in Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest, largest and most selective all-discipline honor society, is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

Report: Local Area Worst Place to Start a Career

A new report by personal finance website WalletHub finds that the Modesto area, which includes Turlock, is the worst geographical place to start a career amongst the nation’s 150 largest cities. Yep, 150th out of 150. Last place. Other Central Valley cities on the list, “Best and Worst Cities to Start a Career,” include Sacramento (91st), Fresno (134th), and Stockton (148th).

Turlock Fire, AMR to Host 10-Minute CPR Sessions

The Turlock Fire Department is partnering with American Medical Response to host “Compression Only CPR” training sessions on Wednesday.Training sessions will only take 10 minutes, and no appointment is necessary to attend. Sessions are free to the public.On Wednesday, AMR operations across the country are uniting to train thousands of people in compression only CPR.
