Trash Pickup Adjustments for Christmas, New Year’s Day

With a little extra trash from the mountains of ripped up wrapping paper, Turlock residents need not worry if their normal trash collection day falls on Christmas this year. Turlock Scavenger will be closed on Christmas Day and will not be collecting trash that day, but residents who normally have their trash collected on Thursday will have their trash picked up on Friday, Dec. 26.

Local Businesses Open Their Doors on Christmas Eve, Day

Christmas comes hand-in-hand with throngs of last-minute shoppers as well as anyone and everyone who still needs to run errands this time of year. Fortunately for all involved in the Christmas mayhem, a smattering of local retailers are posting a few hours for the two busiest days of the year. In terms of grocery stores, Safeway (Countryside Drive) will be open until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. They do not have hours available on Christmas Day, but have offered their Modesto store on McHenry Avenue as a substitute, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Costco (Tegner Road) will also be open Christmas Eve from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Turlock Woman Goes Crazy With Christmas Lights, Makes Many Happy

Turlock resident Stephanie Valgos spent more than an average work week, 40 hours, decorating her house in Christmas lights and she easily admits she suffers from a bit of “Christmas craziness.” “I didn’t think my Christmas craziness was that big of a deal until many individuals spoke of the joy and happiness it brought to their hearts,” Valgos said. “I love peeking out my window and seeing people taking pictures with their children throughout my wonderland.”
