Turlock Firefighters Stick Up for Student Who Was Teased for Wearing Pink

A small group of Turlock Firefighters took time out of their day Friday morning to deliver an informational message to a first-grade class at Earl Elementary after a boy named Logan, the son of Kerry Goman-Rocha, was teased by classmates for wearing pink for breast cancer awareness. Early in the morning Kerry ran into Turlock Fire Department Captain Frank Saldivar at Turlock High School. Saldivar was dropping off pink-t-shirts for THS staff members to wear for breast cancer awareness month, which is October.

While campus was closed on Friday for observance of Columbus Day, maintenance crews at California State University, Stanislaus were hard at work. Crews were busy digging up and replacing pipes near the Demergasso-Bava Hall with a backhoe.

A Turlock resident submitted a picture of the City of Turlock yet again wasting water. This time in front of Turlock Junior High School. Since mid-July, when the California Water Board approved $500 fines for water wasters, Turlock residents have consistently submitted pictures of water spilling into streets from City of Turlock owned property.

Foster Farms CEO Steps Down

Foster Farms announced Thursday that Ron Foster has planned step down from his position as President and CEO of the company. “I have greatly enjoyed the past 11 years as your CEO,” Foster said in a letter to Foster Farms employees. “During this period, we have witnessed some of the most challenging and some of the most rewarding times in our company’s history. I am confident that Foster Farms is positioned to do great things.”

Hundreds of Walnut Students Walk to School

An estimated 450 Walnut Elementary students and their loved ones walked to school Wednesday morning as part of the international Walk to School Day. Walk to School Day has special significance to the students because Walnut is a magnet school and few of the students enrolled walk to school on a regular basis due to distance and time.
