New Country Bar to Open in Former Vintage Lounge Location

Get ready to hop off that saddle, kick off them stirrups and get your whistle wet — there’s a new watering hole coming to Turlock. “The Udder Place,” a country-western-themed full service bar is set to open in early 2015 at 110 W. Main St. — the former location of the Vintage Lounge & Piano Bar, and Scottie’s, an old hole in the wall bar.

Parent Launches Petition to Change Common Core Math in TUSD Middle Schools

With Common Core now fully underway in the Turlock Unified School District, some parents are now fighting back for their children’s education, in particular for middle school math offerings. A parent of three TUSD students, Marie Guerrero, launched a petition asking the district to “offer accelerated math classes for 7th and 8th graders” on Sunday to address the district’s failure to offer math enrichment opportunities for middle school math students through the Common Core Implementation Plan.

TUSD Board To Hold Public Meeting Oct. 7

The Turlock Unified School District will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 7 at the Professional Development Center, located at 1100 Cahill Ave. Wakefield Elementary School student Lillian Escobar will provide the inspiration to open the meeting and fellow student Jaqueline Vazquez will lead the flag salute. Both were selected as TUSD Character Counts students of the month for the character trait of “trustworthiness.”

When was the last time you tested the smoke alarms in your home? Was it last week, last month, or last year? If you are like most people, you may not even remember the last time you tested them. Smoke alarms have become such a common feature in U.S. homes that they are often taken for granted and aren’t tested or maintained as they should be.
