Turlock Police Officer Hit by Car While Responding to Burglary at Home Recovering

Turlock Police Department responded to the area of S. Berkeley, just south of East Avenue, on a report of a possible burglary in progress on Friday, December 7th. Sergeant Anthony Silva, along with other Turlock Police Department officers, responded to the location. Sergeant Silva arrived to the location first and located two unknown subjects. As Sergeant Silva waited for back up units, an uninvolved vehicle suddenly struck him.

According to TPD, emergency medial services were immediately summoned to the scene and airlifted Sergeant Silva to a nearby hospital. The drive of the vehicle that struck him remained on scene after the collision occurred and assisted officers on scene. The driver was not found to be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.

Sergeant Silva is out of the hospital and now recovering at home with his family. Though his injuries, including a right broken leg, were serious, they were non-life threatening.

“He is still on leave, however, he is expected to recover and return to work,” stated Officer Mayra Lewis. “As far as when? Only time will tell.”

The woman driving the vehicle was not detained or arrested as a result of the accident.

Turlock Police Department is still working on trying to identify the two subjects who fled the scene during the incident.
