On Saturday, November 5th, 2022, at 10:14 pm, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries in the 1600 block of W Main St, Turlock.
When crews arrived on scene, they found a single vehicle involved, a silver Toyota sedan, which had struck a woman.
The vehicle had a single occupant who did not suffer any injuries. The woman that the vehicle had struck, later identified as Maria Castillo Rodriguez, 71, of Hayward, suffered major injuries and was ground transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital. She unfortunately succumbed to her injuries shortly after her arrival at the hospital.
The vehicle sustained minor damage and was able to be driven away from the scene.
Officers began investigating and determined that the vehicle was traveling westbound in the left lane of W Main St from N Tully Rd, while Rodriguez was crossing W Main St in a northerly direction while not in a crosswalk. Rodriguez successfully made it across the eastbound lanes and the turn lane, however, was struck by the vehicle when she arrived in the westbound left lane. The driver of the vehicle claimed that she did not see Rodriguez until she was right in front of her and was unable to stop in time.
Officers also determined that neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in this collision.
The investigation remains on-going. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call Officer Mike Simbalenko at 209-668-6523.
