A Turlock toddler has been hospitalized and is in critical condition after reportedly suffering injuries at the hands of a relative.

Brandon Rodriguez, 33, was arrested and charged with felony charges of endangering a child, causing pain, and inflicting great bodily injury to a child under the age of five.

The injured 2-year-old was under Rodriguez’s supervision overnight when the child suffered the life-threatening injuries.

The child suffered the injuries sometime between 11:00 p.m. March 22 and the morning of March 23, when the the child’s mother returned.

The mother took her child to Emanuel Medical Center after being told the child had been acting unusual and appeared to be more tired.

Once at Emanuel, hospital staff notified Turlock police and Child Protective Services due to the severity of the injuries.

The child was then transferred to Children’s Hospital of Central California in Madera, where the child remains in critical condition.

The nature of the injuries remain unknown, but they are believed to be directly caused by Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail, but has since been released on bail.
