Man arrested for robbery after threatening victim while stealing alcohol Monday night

On Monday, June 27th, 2022, at 10:43 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported larceny that had just occurred at Chevron Food Mart, 881 N Golden State Blvd, Turlock, after a man had just stolen alcohol from the business.

Officers arrived on scene and contacted Angelo Gomez, 26, of Turlock, who was behind the business and matched the description given of the suspect. He was detained in handcuffs for further investigation.

One of the officers made contact with the victim and learned that the incident was actually a robbery, not a larceny. Gomez had entered the business and tried to purchase items, including alcohol, with his credit card. When his transaction was declined, he took the items and began walking out of the store, stating that he was going to get money. The victim clerk then ran after Gomez who reportedly turned around, tried to hit him, and threatened him. Because Gomez used fear to aid him in his escape, that’s what escalated the incident to a robbery. That’s when the victim then retreated and called police.

The victim was brought out to Gomez and asked to confirm that that was the man who had robbed him, which he did.

Gomez was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of robbery.
