At about 11:19pm Tuesday, Turlock Police responded to a weapon offense at a residence in the 300 block of Vermont Avenue.

The caller reported they had just found their 17-year-old son sleeping with a loaded handgun next to him.

The sergeant then had the dispatcher tell the parents to remove the handgun from their son’s room and secure it elsewhere.

Officers arrived on scene and secured the gun, before waking up the 17-year-old who was on juvenile probation and a convicted felon.

When officers had their dispatcher run the gun, a Taurus TH9c 9mm pistol, they discovered it had been reported stolen out of Kansas City.

The 17-year-old was arrested and booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on charges of possession of a handgun by a minor and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
