Fabian Garcia made it to the quarterfinals with no problems as he won his first match 10-0, then won again pinning his opponent in 1:01. Supporters were suspecting a first place win for the high school junior.
Garcia will be competing for third place in the second day of State Championships though as he hurt is knee wrestling in the quarterfinals and lost 9-3.
Garrett Fortado also was cruising into the quarterfinals as he won matches 6-3, 15-1, and then once by default.
Fortado lost 2-0 in the quarterfinals but will also wrestle in the second day of State Championships.
Both Pitman wrestlers, Andrew Perez and Gustavo Verver, advancing to the second day of State Championships lost their first matches and had to battle with consecutive wins through consolation rounds to make it to the next day.
Verver has had to battle though with a 0-1 loss and two victories of 3-2.
Jose Zinuga also made it to the State Championships but did not advance to the second day of wrestling. He won his first match in double-overtime 2-1, won two matches by default, and then lost his last two matches putting him out of placing.
