Additional Details on Cat Burnings Released

Turlock City News has obtained additional information from the Turlock Police Department about the two intentional cat burnings by Joshua Scott, 21, of Modesto, that occurred within the past few weeks.

We’ve learned that Scott was not cooking the cats to eat them, however, the actual motive is not being released at this time. We’ve also learned that at least one of the cats appeared to have been burned alive.

Scott’s bail had initially been set at the scheduled amount of $20,000, however, during a case management conference on August 14th, the District Attorney’s Office requested a higher bail and The Honorable Judge Dawna Reeves increased it to $100,000.

Scott is due in court this Monday for another case management conference and again on Wednesday, September 20th, for a preliminary examination.

Through our own investigation, Turlock City News also revealed that Scott was involved in a robbery from Pet Supplies Plus last year. During that incident, Scott had used his body to push through an employee while exiting the business with unpaid merchandise.

He was located across the street with the stolen property still in his possession and was arrested. He is currently still on probation in that case and violation of probation proceedings are ongoing because of the cat burnings.

“Turlock PD is doing all we can to support a successful prosecution, but the case is now in the hands of the District Attorney’s Office,” said Turlock Police Chief Jason Hedden in a statement. “As a note, I have asked my team to reach out to the DA to request that they do all they can to keep this man in custody,” he continued.
