Ammunition Found at Turlock Elementary School

School has been back in session for only a week now and police have already been called out to the Brown Elementary campus.

The Turlock Police Department responded to a report of a Turlock Unified School District employee finding a bag that contained a box of ammunition and a magazine at Brown Elementary.

Mike Trainor, TUSD Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, confirmed the Wednesday, 6:50 a.m. incident.

“Prior to students and staff arriving to the Brown campus, a custodian found a bag of ammunition hanging on a door handle,” said Trainor.

Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis added, “This appears to be an isolated incident and the students and school staff at Brown Elementary are safe.”

TUSD stated that the incident was resolved by 7:20 a.m. and Turlock Police said that the school grounds went back to being safe before classes were to be in session.

Turlock police confiscated the ammo and magazine, however, there was no weapon to be found.

TUSD notification of the incident was sent home to the Brown Elementary School families early yesterday afternoon.

“The school out of common courtesy, made a notification that was sent home to the parents/ guardians of the students that afternoon,” said Trainor. “We continue to work cooperatively with the Turlock Police Department on this isolated incident.”
