There's no need to travel to London for authentic fish and chips.

A new fish and chips restaurant has opened in Downtown Turlock, offering the sort of fried fish and french fries that would make any Englishman jealous.

“It’s been really busy since we opened,” said Ann’s Fish & Chips owner Rick Donnelly. “A lot of people have been in and we really like Downtown Turlock.”

Rick and Teresa Donnelly, who have lived in Turlock since 2002, opened Ann’s Fish & Chips in Downtown Turlock on May 14. Since then, customers have flocked in by the dozens to try the delicious food and homemade tartar sauce.

“Coming from England, I was impressed with the quality of their fish and chips,” wrote one customer in a review. “It is good to see a restaurant using fresh cod instead of pollock, and their homemade tartar sauce is delicious. I will definitely go back.”

Ann's offers more than just fish and chips. The restaurant also offers a variety of food choices from shrimp and chip combos to chicken strips, assorted deep-fried vegetables, coleslaw, and onion rings.

The recipes – and the new restaurant – build on a lifetime of experience.

“I learned to cook at the age of ten,” Rick Donnelly said. “My mom had restaurants my entire life while I was growing up and I was always helping her out.”

Ann’s Fish and Chips is located at 428 E. Main St. in Turlock, previously home to Frost Bakery and Mainly Bagels. Hours of operation are currently Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
