Apartment fire displaces four and kills cat Sunday evening

On Sunday, June 25th, 2023, at 6:01 pm, the Turlock Fire Department, Modesto Fire Department, Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District, Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit, Turlock Police Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported structure fire at Vilas Parkside, 381 W Hawkeye Ave, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found a second-story apartment fire that they were able to knock down within 15 minutes.

Firefighters remained on scene for an extended period of time conducting overhaul and other post-fire activities.

No people were reported to be injured, however, one cat perished in the fire.

One adult and three children were displaced as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross responded to provide assistance to them.

The Turlock Irrigation District and Pacific Gas and Electric Company responded to the scene to secure utilities, while the Modesto Fire Department and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District provided city coverage for the duration of the incident.

The cause and origin of the fire remain unknown.
