April Full of Fun, Free Events at Turlock Library

The Turlock Library will offer a number of free, fun programs for all ages throughout the month of April.

April kicks off with the celebration of National Poetry Month, where guests can add to the library’s “Poet-Tree,” by writing down their favorite poems on leaves used to decorate the tree.

On April 8, children are invited to a dance party at the library at 10:30 a.m. The program begins with group dances, followed by an opportunity for freestyle dancing. Participants can also visit music themed stations.

Adults are then invited to attend “After the Firestorm: Qualifying for a Mortgage in 2015” at 7 p.m. April 8. California mortgage specialist Jim Liberto from Integrity First Financial Group will discuss what is required to qualify for a home loan in today’s market. Call 209-664-8100 to reserve a seat.

At 4 p.m. April 9, children and tweens can “Spring into Science.” Participants will conduct experiments using Peeps and eggs, and will learn about birds and butterflies. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Turlock Library.

A program to help kids learn about saving money, “3 Ways to Save,” will be hosted on April 14 at 4 p.m. A representative from Bank of the West will provide a book and activity to teach children and parents about saving money.

On April 15, at 7 p.m., the Turlock Library will host “As Seen on Pinterest,” a craft program for teens and adults. Participants will learn how to repurpose old books into book art. The program is recommended for ages 14 and older. Registration for this program is required. Children can learn how to make a recycled piggy bank at 4 p.m. on April 21. Participants will use plastic drink bottles to create piggy banks that they can take home. This craft is sponsored by Friends of the Turlock Library.

Attorney Sergio Jimenez from Strategic Legal Group will lead an Estate Planning Workshop on April 21 at 7 p.m. This program will focus on the importance of creating a will or trust. Jimenez is bilingual in both English and Spanish and will be available to answer questions in both languages.

A speaker from the Stanislaus County Department of Environmental Resources will present a special Recycling Story Time event on Thursday, April 23 at 10 a.m. Preschoolers will learn about the importance of recycling.

Finally, the very popular LEGO day will be hosted at 3:30 p.m. on April 28. All ages can build LEGO displays for the library; LEGO play helps children learn basic math and engineering skills in a fun, hands-on environment. Children under the age of 4 are welcome to participate, however they must have direct parental supervision. LEGO programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
