Turlock’s BMX Bike Park was built in 2010, but has drawn criticism from riders and seldom sees usage on the same level as the Brandon Koch Memorial Skatepark.
In fact, several BMX riders can be seen taking to the skatepark, instead.
Perhaps operating hours are to blame for small numbers of riders taking to the bike park – bike park hours are from 3:45 p.m. to sunset Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. to sunset on weekends.
But design is likely the bigger issue, as many local riders have complained the course is too basic. The City of Turlock vetoed initial designs proposed by the BMX community, arguing they were too dangerous.
The BMX Bike Park is located in the northwest corner of the storm basin on Christoffersen Parkway and Walnut Avenue.
