Around Turlock – February 16

It’s mid-February, but don’t try telling that to the local wildlife.

This charm of hummingbirds was spotted feeding at a Turlock home this week. Typically, hummingbirds are seldom seen in winter months; most California hummingbirds migrate to Mexico for the winter.

The unseasonably warm temperatures are likely contributing to the hummingbirds’ presence. The average high in February is 61 degrees, but temperatures have climbed into the high 70s many times this year.
