Around Turlock – May 20

Local skateboarders will find a new feature, of sorts, at Turlock’s Brandon Koch Memorial Skate Park.

City of Turlock workers used a large tractor to block off a damaged element of the skate park with a concrete barrier reading ”Warning! Do Not.“

According to workers, transitions between the concrete floor and the spine element had become damaged, making the element unsafe. A specialized contractor must be hired to re-weld the transition before the element can re-open.

The Brandon Koch Memorial Skate Park is currently located on Starr Avenue, but will eventually move to Donnelly Park. That move was expected to occur in April, as Turlock is working to sell a parcel containing the skate park, the former Turlock Police Department, and the War Memorial to the Turlock Irrigation District. The move was delayed, however, as the State of California has yet to approve the sale; state grant funding was used to build the skate park, complicating the sale.
