Around Turlock – September 8

Turlock area farmers and city residents are still praying for rain as summer slowly begins to turn into fall.

According to Turlock Irrigation District spokesperson Calvin Curtin, water flow from the Tuolumne River, which TID draws its water from, is at 31 percent of the 50-year average and the Don Pedro Reservoir is at about 40 percent of normal storage capacity.

Unfortunately, no rain is predicted in the next 10 days and temperatures will routinely enter the high 90s and push the century mark, according to Weather.com.

On the plus side TID reports that water delivery is trending lower, at about 40,000-acre-feet less than anticipated.

“The credit goes to the growers for managing their water well,” said Curtin.
