Arsonist lights three fires downtown early Monday morning

On Monday, September 19th, 2022, at 4:49 am, the Turlock Fire Department was dispatched to a reported fire in front of Glitz Fine Clothing, 306 E Main St, Turlock.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a metal trash bin with its contents fully involved.

Firefighters were able to quickly put the fire out and prevent it from spreading to the business.

As firefighters were getting ready to clear, a passerby reported to them that there were two additional fires nearby.

Firefighters began checking the area and located the two additional fires in the back parking lot of Century 21 M&M and Associates, 331 E Main St. One was a refuse cart fire leaning up against a structure and the other was a dumpster fire.

Firefighters were able to quickly put both fires out and prevent the one that was leaning up against the structure from spreading to it.

The Turlock Police Department and Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigations Unit responded to the scene to investigate.

Officers made contact with and identified a suspicious person who was in the area of all three fires at the respective times that they were set. Further follow-up will be conducted including surveillance footage reviewal to determine if he was the man responsible for the fire.
