Backyard prowler arrested after climbing onto roofs early Tuesday morning

On Tuesday, February 21st, 2023, at 4:08 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported prowler at a residence in the 1300 block of Estrella Way, Turlock, who was in the backyard.

While officers were responding, they received a call from a resident in the 1300 block of W Springer Dr stating that the prowler was now in their backyard.

By the time officers arrived in the area, the prowler had already left, however, they were given a description of him. One of the officers checking the area spotted a man matching that description at the intersection of Crowell Rd and Shady Ln, so he attempted to make contact. When the man noticed the officer, he began running and jumping fences.

An officer who was already on scene launched his drone and located the man going between the backyards of two residences in the 1200 block of Shady Ln. Officers surrounded the yards and the man eventually began climbing onto rooftops.

After a few minutes, the man decided to give up and went down to officers. He was detained and identified as Lelynd Allen, 32, of Turlock.

The residents of the two homes that had originally reported prowlers in their backyards responded to where Allen was detained and both positively identified him as who they had seen.

Allen was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of loitering or prowling for the purpose of committing a crime, public intoxication, and obstructing or resisting a public officer in the discharge of their duty.
