Bike thief stopped and held by victim Sunday evening

On Sunday, November 29th, 2020, at approximately 4:30 pm, the Turlock Police Department received a call of a bike theft that had just occurred in the area of Countryside Dr and Shetland Way. The reporting party stated that he and some bystanders had made a citizens arrest on the suspect and was holding him until officers arrived. While officers were responding, an off-duty California Highway Patrol officer was passing by and noticed what was going on. He also stopped to assist.

Officers arrived on scene shortly before 4:40 pm and took Fernando Tizoc, 43, of Turlock into custody. He originally gave officers a fake name but then gave them his real name after being told he would get an additional charge for the fake name. The bike was returned to the victim on scene and Tizoc was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of robbery, providing false identification to a peace officer, and violation of parole.
