Bike to Work Week Rolls into Turlock

Lovers of active transportation, this is your chance to make a healthy choice, help Turlock’s air quality and – best of all – win prizes. Bike & Walk to Work Week is returning to Turlock May 12 through 16.

By either pledging to bike or walk to work or transit at least one day instead of driving alone, members are entered to win prizes ranging from $100 Visa Gift Cards to a bike tour and overnight getaway for two in Napa Valley. This grand prize includes a gourmet picnic lunch, spending cash and an overnight stay in an area hotel.

It’s easy to sign up. Just fill out the pledge form, promising to bike or walk to work at least one day during Bike to Work Week, then get out there and ride (or walk). There will also be local events offering free giveaways, prizes and a chance to meet other participants.

If you’re new to commuting by foot or bike, make sure to check out www.valleybikecommute.com for resources to make the transition to a car-free commute. Experienced cyclists, offer to help out your friends and co-workers with the challenge.

Prizes will be awarded after Bike to Work Week has finished. Winners will be randomly selected, so even if you can only attend one day there’s still a chance to win. Follow Commute Connection on Facebook for information about cycling events going on in the San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Merced counties this May: www.facebook.com/pages/Commute-Connection/120962144592486.

There will be a bike rally at 9 a.m. May 16 at the Turlock Farmers Market, where cyclists and walkers are invited to stop by for free t-shirts, healthy snacks and other giveaways. In addition to this, a short bike tour will be given through the city.
