Breaking: Kaepernick Agrees to 6-Year, $110 Million Extension with 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Colin Kaepernick have reportedly agreed to an extension that will keep him in the Bay Area through 2020 and make him one of the highest paid players in the NFL.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted the news shortly before 1 p.m., stating that Kap and the 49ers have agreed to a 6-year extension which will pay upwards of $110 million dollars.

Kaepernick, who was expected to make approximately $1 million in the final year of his rookie contract and was set to be a free agent at the end of the 2014 season, is now set to be the starting quarterback of the 49ers through the 2020 season.

The contract is estimated to include about $61 million guaranteed of the $110 million total, the most guaranteed money in NFL history, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

The exact structure of the contract is unknown at this time.

Kaepernick is graduate of Turlock’s Pitman High School.
