Brett Nichols to be Honored at Turlock City Council Meeting

Brett Nichols, Pitman High School’s “King of Pop” will be presented with an official proclamation from the Turlock City Council on Tuesday.

The proclamation will be read by Turlock Mayor John Lazar. It tells the story of how Nichols became interested in Michael Jackson’s work at an early age, first performed a Jackson dance routine at a Walnut Elementary School Talent Show, then took his show to the Pitman High School Talent Rally, which he won with his routine to “Billie Jean.”

The Pitman junior’s performance went viral, reaching nearly 16 million views on YouTube. He has since been contacted by the Jackson estate, the Ellen DeGeneres Show, CNN, MTV, the Huffington Post, and the Today Show.

“Whereas, Brett Nichols has given several high profile interviews where he has brought notable recognition to Turlock, and … through his exemplary effort and achievement Brett Nichols has earned the respect and admiration of his family, friends, teachers, and the Turlock community,” the proclamation reads, in part.

The Turlock City Council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Yosemite Room of Turlock City Hall, 156 S. Broadway, at which time Nichols will receive his proclamation.
