EUGENE, Ore. — Abraham Alvarado is among the 170 collegiate men competing this weekend at Hayward Field for an opportunity to represent the United States on the world stage.

Alvarado competes in the 800-meter run on Saturday at 6:10 p.m. at the two-day U.S. Outdoor Junior Championships at the University of Oregon. He had qualified 14th in a best time of 1:50.76. The top qualifying time is 1:47.68. If the Cal State Stanislaus freshman is able to advance out of the preliminaries, he will run in the finals on Sunday at 4:45 p.m.

Given they've met the qualifying standards, the two highest-finishing athletes in each of the individual events this weekend will earn a spot on Team USA for the 2014 edition of the World Junior Championships.

Alvarado is the CCAA Champion and the NCAA national championship qualifier during his freshman season.

The U.S. Outdoor Junior Championships are available for viewing online on USATF.tv.
