Candidate Filing Period Extended for Turlock School Board; TID and Chatom Filing Closed

The Turlock Irrigation District (TID) and Turlock Unified School District (TUSD) will see challenged election races for Board seats, while the TUSD candidate filing deadline has been extended due to at least one incumbent choosing not to run. The Chatom Union School District (CUSD) candidate filing period is closed and all three incumbents filled unopposed.

The candidate filing period for the November 8, 2011, Consolidated District Election began on Monday, July 18, 2011 and had a filing deadline of August 12, 2011, unless an incumbent did not file, then the filing deadline for that office will now be extended to Wednesday, August 17, 2011.
 
 
TID has 2 Director seats up for election and the candidate filing period is closed as both incumbents filed.
 
Incumbent Michael Frantz (Farmer/Businessman), of Hickman, will face challenger Christopher Barth (Businessman/Farmer), of Turlock, for the Division 1 Director seat and incumbent Rob Santos (Veterinarian), of Turlock, will run unopposed for Division 4 Director.
 
Frantz was appointed to the TID Board of Directors on November 17, 2009, after TID Director Phillip Short passed away on September 25, 2009. When Frantz was chosen for appointment in 2009, eleven people vied for the TID Director position.
 
Those elected to the TID Board of Directors currently receive $1,000 per month salary and are eligible to receive the same health benefits as full time employees for the duration of their elected term.
 
 
TUSD has 5 Board seats up for election this year and the candidate filing period has been extended as only 3 Incumbents filed for 5 seats.
 
Eileen Hamilton (Incumbent), Frank M. Lima (Incumbent), Andrew Johnson (Fund Development Specialist), Miguel A. Galvez (Real Estate Agent), and Harinder Grewal (Senior Inspector) filed for 4 four-year seats.
 
1 of the 5 seats up for election is a short term (two- year) seat and has been closed as Tami Harrill-Muniz, who was previously appointed to the TUSD Board, filed as an incumbent.
 
Tami Muniz was appointed to the TUSD Board on February 2, 2010, as a Provisional Board Appointment to fill the vacancy left by Lori Crivelli’s resignation shortly after being elected in November 2009. The Provisional Board Appointment runs through November 2011, when the regular election process will take place.
 
This will be the last year an at-large election will be held for TUSD Trustee positions. Beginning in 2013 Trustee positions will be elected by their specific districts mapped out throughout the TUSD.
 
Incumbents Loren Holt and John Sims did not file for reelection.
 
 
TUSD Board Members currently do not receive any form of compensation for serving on the Board and they do not receive health benefits.
 
 
CUSD has 2 Board seats up for election and the candidate filing period is closed as both incumbents filed.
 
Both incumbents, Steve Soderstrom and Dan Costa, will run unopposed.
 
CUSD Board Members currently do not receive compensation for serving on the Board but they do receive health benefits for the duration of their elected term.
 
According to California Education Code 35120, compensation for School Board Members is allowed and is set according to average daily attendance within the district.

Denair Unified School District candidate filing deadline has been extended as only one incumbent, Carolyn D. Brown filed. Incumbents Kelley Day and Tim Ellis did not file for reelection, therefore extending the deadline even though there are already four candidates for three seats; John E. Piett (Retired Law Enforcement), Carolyn D. Brown (Incumbent) , Julian N. Wren (Social Worker Supervisor), and Don Smith Jr. (Retired).
 
 
Keyes Union School District (KUSD) filing deadline has been extended as only one incumbent, Bob Edwards, filed. Incumbent Sandra Marchant did not file for reelection, therefore extending the deadline even though there are already two candidates for two seats; Bob Edwards (Incumbent) and Tammy L. Edwards (accountant).
 
 
Denair Community Service District filing period has been closed as all three incumbents filed.
 
Incumbents Ronald C. Allen, T.J. McDonald, and Karl F. Curnow will all run without challenge.
 
 
Keyes Community Service District deadline has been extended as only one incumbent filed, Casey Chadwick. There are currently 4 candidates who have filed for 2 Director seats; William Alexander (No Designation), Casey Chadwick (Incumbent), Mike Bernal (Campus Safety Officer), Roberto Jimenez (Media Research Developer).
 
Keyes Community Service District also has one short term (2 year) seat up for election and the filing deadline has been closed as the incumbent, Johnathan Parker, filed and is unopposed.
 
 
Denair Municipal Advisory Council filing period has been closed as both 2 incumbents filed.
 
Both incumbents, Cheryl Zumstein and Dennis R. Findley, will run without challenge.
 
 
Keyes Municipal Advisory Council filing period has been closed as both all 3 incumbents filed.
 
The three incumbents, Davie Landers Jr., William Alexander, and Jeff Reed, will all run without challenge.
