Catalytic converter thief arrested Thursday morning

On Thursday, April 8th, 2021, at approximately 8:35 am, a Turlock Police officer on patrol in the area of Motel 6 located at 250 S Walnut Rd saw a subject he had been looking for who was responsible for multiple recent catalytic convertor thefts. The officer got out of his vehicle and attempted to make contact with the subject, but he took off running.

The officer ordered him to stop, but he failed to comply and continued to run. When the subject went around the building, the officer lost sight of him. Other officers saturated the area and began searching for the subject. Officers checked the motel’s security cameras and they showed the subject hiding in a black SUV. Officers went to the black SUV and found the subject inside of it. He was taken into custody without further incident. While conducting a search of the subject incident to arrest, officers found he was in possession of narcotics.

The subject, who was identified as Scott Tackett, 29, of Turlock, was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the original warrant for grand theft as well as fresh charges of possession of a controlled substance and resisting a peace officer.
